Ubbi diaper pail is stinky

We have the Ubbi diaper pail because reviews said it wouldn't hold odor as much as plastic diaper pails since it's steel. Well I don't have any comparison but it is stinky. Any advice on how to get rid/reduce the odor? When the pail is closed I cannot smell anything really but the pail itself is holding odor. Of course I know pails will be stinky but any advice on how to reduce would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I got the round stick on air fresheners at my local grocery store and it has helped a ton. The Hawaiian Breeze cent works the best lol

@ArmyWife428,

Good idea! Thanks!

I have those in washer booster beads I use for towels and sheets and I randomly threw some in mine when I changed the bag. They have a super over powering scent out of the bottle so they work awesome for the Ubbi

@Lizzle1029,

Yah I totally don't stick my head in there either haha NO WAY JOSE. But I let the bag get preettyyyy full and I never have lingering smells in the nursery and now it just smells like those beads when I open it lol.

@Link125,

In the bag because they're kinda waxy I didn't want them sticking but you could probably put some in a mesh thing or something and toss it in the actual Pail and that would work!

@hbicstevi,

Those scent beads are a great idea! We use a little arm & hammer cube thing at the bottom of the ubbi. It obviously smells if there are diapers in it, but once the thing is empty, I don't notice a lingering smell. Note, I'm not sticking my face in to check! You could also sprinkle baking not soda in the bottom before you stick the bag in, but it would have to be emptied out regularly.

@hbicstevi,

Did you put them in the bag or directly in the bottom of the Ubbi? Thanks for the idea!

I don't know if there is a difference, but I use cloth? So the liner is thicker maybe? But whenever I change the bag every 2 days, the smell can sometimes be rough, I just drop one or two drops of essential oil (whatever i have on hand) in the ubbi. I seem not to notice until a week or two and I add another drop or two.

Sorry, this content has been deleted

I try every few weeks to take it apart and wipe it all down with bleach. Especially the top that holds the bag in, the sliding opening. Then I fill it with hot water and soap, bleach and let sit then rinse. No matter how clean or careful you are I'm sure stuff gets on the ubbi.
